3.
The next step is to find a company (host provider) to "host" your
website; there are thousands out there. Our site is hosted by
QualityHostOnline.com,
a very inexpensive host provider (about $12/year); making it economical for anyone to have their own
website. If you want to have your own email address like you@yourlastname.com,
you need to get a web hosting service. Another, very good and
inexpensive hosting company is
Hostway.com. (click
banner above).
4.
Once you have your hosting company, you now need "point" your
domain name to that hosting company. This is done by a DNS record or
"name server" change by the company who has registered your domain name, like Hostway for
example. This process is like
making an address change when you move so the postman knows where to deliver your
mail. Their
customer support can help you accomplish this, or you can do it on your own.
5.
The next step is to actually create your website (the format, text &
graphics). This step is where you can let your creativity shine. Of
course, if you're no so creative, you can use a built-in template found in
many programs. Our website was created using Microsoft FrontPage
2003. But there are several other programs designed to help you create a
website of your own. Some programs are free.
6.
The final step is to upload the website's file you created to your hosting
companies server, so that when someone types www.yourlastname.com into their
browser, they will see your website. FrontPage calls this step, "publishing".
All this
really sounds more complicated than it is. If you need help, let me
know.
